A "dated" sports pavilion in a Sheffield suburb could be demolished and replaced, if plans are given the go-ahead.
A proposal, submitted by Sheffield City Council, outlines plans for a modern facility to be built at Stannington Park.
Although the existing pavilion remained in use for community and private hire, it was described in a report to be considered by councillors as being in a "deteriorating condition".
The new building was set to be single-storey with a flat roof and timber-effect cladding, the report stated.
According to the Local Democracy Reporting Service, the application formed part of the council's youth strategy and was being led by Community Youth Services.
A report to be scrutinised by councillors stated: "The application proposes the demolition of the existing dated pavilion to be replaced with a new modern pavilion."
The new building would retain its original function, it also noted.
Stannington ward councillor Will Sapwell welcomed the project, which is still in its early stages, saying it was "such an exciting project".
"It promises to deliver what so many Stannington residents and community groups have asked for – improvements to the park and an increase in youth services in the area," he said.
"As councillors, we've had to be careful not to over-promise while working with groups like the Stannington Carnival team, Action for Stannington and Stannington Brass Band to ensure the designs meet the requirements of the whole community."
The plans being submitted marked "an important milestone in getting this project done", he added.
The council's planning department is expected make its decision on the proposals by 23 May.
